I’ve released the iOS music memo app Track Notes.
In this article, I’ll introduce the background behind its development and its main features.
Development Background
This app was born from my wife’s request: “I want an app that lets me take notes on songs I’m listening to in Apple Music.”
She produces electronic music through DTM, often listening to many reference tracks during the creative process. She would jot down analyses and observations about these songs to refer back to during production.
However, with general-purpose memo apps such as Notion, smooth integration with Apple Music wasn’t possible, and there was no easy way to link notes to a specific playback position in a song.
Since I couldn’t find a good method for managing this, I decided to develop Track Notes.
What is “Track Notes”?
Track Notes is an iOS app that allows you to save comments and analytical notes for songs you listen to in Apple Music or from your library.
It’s especially useful for music creators or those studying music, as it lets you reliably capture important sections you want to reference later.
Key Features
- Quickly add notes to the song you’re currently playing
At any moment of inspiration, instantly pull up the song that’s playing and add a note without breaking your workflow. - Attach notes to specific playback positions
Record points like “this sound” or “this phrase” along with the exact playback position, and jump directly back to that spot later. - An interface designed for quick access
A simple, intuitive design makes it easy to find the song or note you need without disrupting your production or learning process.
Recommended Use Cases
Track Notes is especially recommended for:
- Composers, arrangers, and DTM users
Organize reference tracks during production and efficiently revisit them later. - DJs and video creators
Instantly capture details about songs you want to use for performances or background music. - People learning music
Save important points from lessons or self-study along with the playback position for quick review.
Of course, it’s also useful for everyday Apple Music listeners to record why they added a particular song to their playlist.
Planned Updates
Planned future features include:
- Exporting memo data
- Organizing notes with tags
While there’s no set release date for these features, I plan to keep improving the app to make it even more useful.
Conclusion
Track Notes is a music memo app with Apple Music integration.
It’s not only helpful in music production and learning environments, but also for recording your daily listening experiences.
If you want a tool to reliably preserve your musical ideas and insights, I hope you’ll give it a try.
